Utah Tech University

Center of Precision Medicine and
Functional Genomics

Our Mission

The Center for Precision Medicine and Functional Genomics will contribute to human health by discovering the gene variants underpinning human disease. The center is dedicated to training students in cutting-edge techniques in molecular, pharmacological, and computational biology, and educating the public regarding personalized medicine and its societal benefit.

View Faculty Research

Our faculty are involved in cutting edge research including variant validation, protein evolution, population genomics, and learning about the genetic underpinnings of disease.

SNOW 232

The Center for Precision Medicine and Functional Genomics Journal Club, or “Genomics Journal Club” (GJC) will be in SNOW 232 at 12 pm on October 10. We will be discussing the paper titled “A lethal mitonuclear incompatibility in complex I of natural hybrids” by Moran et al. (2024; Nature). doi: https://doi.org/10.1038/s41586-023-06895-8. Come to enjoy pizza and talk about cutting-edge science!

Oct 29, 2024 Genomics Seminar Series on October 24

12:00 pm
SET 106

Students who attended the Stanford and Johns Hopkins internships program during summer 2024 with provide an overview of their research.

Center Resources

“The Center for Precision Medicine and Functional Genomics is primarily housed in the modern facilities of the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) building on the Utah Tech campus, a state-of-the-art complex inaugurated in 2021. It encompasses advanced laboratories, active learning classrooms, student study areas, and dedicated research spaces, catering to the diverse needs of students and faculty alike.

Center faculty members have access to specialized teaching and research facilities within this building, including a comprehensive suite of spaces dedicated to functional genomics research. These facilities comprise a functional genomics teaching laboratory, several equipment/sterilization rooms, and research space tailored for functional genomics. SET also contains a state-of-the-art zebrafish facility with ZebTEC rack system that incorporates Active Blue technology. Additionally, the Center utilizes space in other buildings on Utah Tech’s campus- including a space for upper-division bioinformatics coursework and research where students can conduct research by remotely connecting with the clusters of the University of Utah Center for High Performance Computing (CHPC).”
