Step 1
University meetings were held on Utah Tech’s campus to gather stakeholder feedback and inform the development of the provost leadership profile and the composition of the search committee.
Step 2
President Smeed announced the launch of the provost search, including the members of the search committee and relevant search information.
Step 3
The position was posted on key advertising sites, including Utah Tech University Employment Opportunities.
Step 4
Applications will be accepted starting in early December 2025. The full consideration deadline is January 26, 2026. Candidates who wish to express interest before the formal application window opens may submit:
- A letter of interest addressing the experience and qualifications outlined in the leadership profile
- A curriculum vitae/resume
- Five professional references (with email addresses and phone numbers provided; references will not be contacted without prior permission)

Step 5
The Search Committee will review applications and select semifinalists.
Step 6
The Search Committee will interview semifinalists and identify provost finalists.
Step 7
Provost finalists will be announced.
Step 8
Three to five finalists will be publicly announced following interviews with the Search Committee. Finalists will visit the Utah Tech campus for public forums and interviews with key stakeholder groups. Specific times and locations will be shared when finalists are announced.
Step 9
President Smeed will interview finalists on campus and announce the final appointment to the university community.
