What is “active learning. active life.”?
“active learning. active life.” is a dynamic initiative that allows students to fully and easily engage in all that Utah Tech has to offer. This one-of-a-kind program guides and documents students’ academic and extracurricular involvement across eight impact areas, maximizing and personalizing their college experience.
Through the “active learning. active life.” app, students can:
- Explore a wide variety of campus activities
- Track engagement in their “active learning. active life.” scorecard
- Achieve key milestones that translate to badges, awards, and medallions
- Showcase life skills and career competencies
Whether their interests lie in research, internships, service, leadership, or social events, “active learning. active life.” helps each UT student discover their passions, build skills, make connections, forge lasting friendships, and prepare for future careers, graduate school, and civic involvement as they blaze their own trail.
How do I participate?
Access the “active learning. active life.” app — Powered by Suitable
- Download the MyUT app from the App Store (if needed).
- Login to MyUT using your D#@utahtech.edu email and password.
- In the “active learning. active life.” section on MyUT, click “Download the Suitable App.”
- Login to Suitable using your D#@utahtech.edu email and password.
Participate and Earn Points
- Choose from a variety of activities based on personal interests.
- Review details, select an activity or event, participate, and let the “active learning. active life.” program automatically track points and engagement.
- Each completed activity earns points toward badges within eight impact areas.
Achieve Milestones
- Earn points toward badges, awards, and medallions, which represent skills and involvement across eight distinct impact areas.
- Achieving 300 points in one impact area completes the requirement and the student receives a digital award.
- Students earn a Bronze medallion after completing two impact areas.
- Finishing four impact areas elevate students to a silver medallion.
- Completing a fifth impact area secures students a gold medallion.
What are the impact areas?
Active Learning
Community Engaged Learning (CEL):
Applying classroom knowledge to real-world projects through direct collaboration with community partners—building skills while fostering civic responsibility.
International & Cultural Experience (INT): Engaging in global experiences that promote intercultural understanding through study abroad, cultural exchanges, and immersive learning within and beyond the U.S.
Career & Professional Development (CPD):
Gaining workplace skills, industry insights, and professional networks through internships, career prep, and experiential learning.
Research (RSH):
Participating in scholarly or applied research to solve problems, deepen subject knowledge, and explore academic and professional pathways.
Active Life
Campus Involvement (INV):
Participating in student organizations, events, and activities that enhance a student’s campus experience and sense of belonging.
Service & Volunteerism (SRV):
Contributing meaningfully to the campus, local, and global communities while promoting civic engagement and social responsibility.
Wellness (WEL):
Committing to a well-rounded lifestyle by engaging in activities and education that support physical, mental, and emotional well-being.
Leadership (LDR):
Developing leadership capacity through experiences that enhance a student’s ability to inspire and guide others toward shared goals.
