The Student Accessibility Board (SAB) is made up of students registered with the Accessibility and Disability Center (ADC) who want to make a difference on campus and in the community. Through the board, students work together to promote accessibility, increase disability awareness, and help create a more inclusive experience for everyone at Utah Tech.
As a member of SAB, you’ll have the opportunity to share your perspective, advocate for meaningful change, and help improve accessibility for current and future students. After all, who better to identify accessibility barriers and promote awareness than students who navigate those experiences themselves?
Board members participate in a variety of projects throughout the year, including accessibility awareness booths, educational campaigns, campus events, and community service opportunities. Students can choose to work on projects individually or collaborate with other board members, depending on their interests, strengths, and availability.
One of our biggest projects is Prom of Possibilities, a free community prom for individuals with disabilities. SAB members help with planning, fundraising, sponsorship outreach, decorating, entertainment, games, and event-day activities. It is a fun and rewarding opportunity to build leadership skills while helping create a memorable experience for hundreds of attendees and their families.
SAB members also help operate Chill Zones at dances such as Inferno, Foam Dance, and CHAOS. These quieter spaces give students a place to step away from the noise, chill, and return to the event when they’re ready. B
The Student Accessibility Board meets twice each month during the fall and spring semesters. Participation counts toward volunteer and service hours and provides valuable experience in leadership, advocacy, event planning, teamwork, and community engagement.
Many of our members have strengthened their resumes through SAB involvement and have gone on to receive scholarships, letters of recommendation, and professional references based on the leadership and service they demonstrated through the board.
