AL² Point Level Guidelines

AL² experiences are assigned point values based on the level of commitment, rigor, and experiential learning involved. As the level increases, so do the time commitment, depth of engagement, and overall impact of the experience.

Level 1--Attendance & Participation (10 Points)

Participate in an event or activity that focuses on attendance or basic participation.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Check-in, Check-out, or both may be required.
  • Typically a one-time event.
  • Artifact submission is not required.

Level 2--Engagement & Involvement (20 Points)

Participate in an experience that encourages active engagement and provides meaningful learning beyond attendance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Active participation is expected. Check-in may be required.
  • Students gain new knowledge, skills, or perspectives.
  • Artifact submission is recommended (e.g., event-specific artifact, course assignment,  photo, or brief reflection).

Level 3--Impactful Development (50 Points)

Complete an experience that applies knowledge while developing career-ready skills through meaningful practice, participation, and/or performance.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 10 hours of focused engagement.
  • Includes experiential learning and demonstrated application of knowledge.
  • Artifact submission is required (e.g., course assignment, personal reflection, skills demonstration, presentation, or similar evidence).

Level 4--Immersive Engagement (75 Points)

Participate in immersive experiences that applies knowledge and skills while creating meaningful impact.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 20 hours of immersive engagement.
  • Demonstrates significant involvement through leadership, service, community engagement, research, or other high-impact experiences.
  • Artifact submission is required (e.g., course assignment, personal reflection, skill demonstration, portfolio, presentation, performance, or similar evidence).

Level 5--Transformative Development (150 Points)

Complete a high-impact experience that demonstrates significant personal growth while creating a meaningful impact on others, the community, or the profession.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of 30 hours of immersive engagement.
  • Develops advanced career-ready and life-ready competencies through transformational experiences.
  • Demonstrates meaningful impact through leadership, service, innovation, research, or community engagement.
  • Artifact submission is required (e.g., course assignment, personal reflection, skill demonstration, portfolio, presentation, or similar evidence).

Canvas Course Requirement

Students must earn a minimum grade of 70% on any AL² activity graded in Canvas to receive AL² credit. Credit will not be awarded until the assignment has been graded in Canvas.
