Overview

Applied Research advances Utah Tech’s active learning. active life. (AL²) mission by creating meaningful opportunities for faculty and students to engage in hands-on, community-engaged research. Through collaboration with industry and community partners, students investigate real-world challenges, contribute to innovative solutions, and apply classroom learning in ways that create lasting impact. These experiences foster curiosity, strengthen critical thinking, and prepare students to make a difference both during their time at Utah Tech and beyond.

What We Do

The Applied Research office provides funding, mentorship, and resources that empower faculty and students to turn ideas into meaningful discoveries. Through collaborative research opportunities, students gain hands-on experience while addressing real-world challenges.

Our office supports several signature initiatives, including:

  • UT Reach
  • Students Pursuing Active Research Knowledge (SPARK)
  • Vertically Integrated Projects (VIP)
  • The Research Symposium

These experiences strengthen critical thinking, problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and professional skills while preparing students for graduate education, careers, and lifelong learning.
