What is the Plan for Utah Tech's 113th Commencement Ceremonies?

Utah Tech University will host two Commencement Ceremonies on Friday, May 3. The ceremony for associate degree graduates will be held in the morning and the master’s and bachelor’s degree ceremony will be held that evening. Graduates must report to the lawn north of the Gardner Student Center at their line-up time to receive detailed instructions and prepare for the Commencement processional to Greater Zion Stadium.

Associate degree recipients will line up at 7:00 a.m.
Master’s and bachelor’s degree recipients will line up at 5:00 p.m.

All participants are required to wear their caps and gowns. Tassels should be worn on the right side and will be moved to the left upon graduation. Graduates must remain seated throughout the entire ceremony.

Ceremony Tickets

Tickets will be not required to attend the 2024 Commencement Ceremonies.

However, if Greater Zion Stadium hits capacity, there will be overflow seating available in the Eccles Mainstage Theater, where the ceremonies will be live streamed.

Which ceremony do I attend?

Associate degree graduates will attend the morning ceremony, and master’s and bachelor’s degree graduates will attend the evening ceremony.

Can I Leave once my name is read?

To show respect for all participants, we ask that graduates do not leave until the ceremony concludes.

Cap and Gown – Regalia

Students

Regalia is paid for through the graduation application fee. The deadline to register for the Spring 2024 graduation was February, 1, 2024.

  • Regalia will not be shipped to students. Graduates must pick up their cap, gown, and tassel from the Grad Fair. Hoods are for masters and doctorate only.
  • Cap, Gown, Hood, Tassel is not a rental; the package is kept by the graduate. No returns.

Grad Fair

All graduating students should attend the Grad Fair, where they will pick up their caps and gowns, honors stoles and cords. Additionally, they will receive a gift from the UT Alumni Association, enjoy snacks, and have the opportunity to purchase Utah Tech memorabilia from the Campus Store booth and join the Alumni Association.

The Grad fair takes place at the Stephen & Marcia Wade Alumni House on the following days:

Wednesday, May 1: 8:00 a.m. – 6:oo p.m.

Thursday, May 2: 8:00 a.m. –6:oo p.m.

Regalia Pick-Up

All regalia distribution will take place at the Stephen & Marcia Wade Alumni House.

Photo ID required for pick up. (Students can arrange for someone else (family member, friend, colleague, etc.) to pick up their regalia package on their behalf. All student regalia is purchased through the Graduation application so once regalia is picked up, it is yours to keep.

Individual department and program cords and stoles are distributed by the individual organization. Please contact the program or organization who provide individual regalia for where you can pick-up your regalia.

Honor Graduates

Honors regalia will be available for pick-up during the Grad Fair. Spring 2024 honors graduates are recognized based on their Fall 2023 GPA. Summer graduates are not eligible for honors until 2024 Commencement. Your transcript will reflect any honors you have earned based on your final GPA at graduation. For any questions regarding your eligibility email graduation@utahtech.edu.

Diplomas

Graduates will receive a complimentary diploma cover at the Commencement ceremony. The actual diploma(s) will be mailed to graduates six to eight weeks after the end of the semester. For those unable to attend the ceremony, please email commencement@utahtech.edu for a mailed cover.

Faculty

The deadline to order faculty regalia was Friday April 12, 2024. Faculty ordering and shipping are coordinated by the University Events & Promotions Office.

Graduation Announcements

Celebrate your accomplishment by spreading the word! Custom Graduation announcements are not available through Utah Tech, but can be ordered by visiting Jostens or any third party. University logos and branding materials can be downloaded here.

Campus Store

Gifts and UT memorabilia can be purchased at the campus bookstore located on the second floor of the Gardner Student Center. The campus store will also be open the day of commencement at Greater Zion Stadium.

ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES

Graduates and guests with disabilities attending Commencement can request accommodations through the Disability Resource Center by phone at 435-652-7516 or by filling out a form by May 2.

 

Reserved seating will be available for individuals who are hard of hearing. American Sign Language Interpreters will be available upon request.

All guests will be allotted one companion seat. Seating is on a first come, first serve basis.

Parking

All UT parking lots are open and free to park in during the 113th Commencement Ceremony. Spaces will be available on a first come first served basis. A campus map can be found linked below. Please be sure to only park in designated parking stalls and locations.

Policies & Precautions

Although Utah Tech does not anticipate any security issues during the ceremony, we will monitor all events to protect the safety and security of our guests.

Policies

  • All bags will be subject to a visual inspection by university personnel.
  • No guests of the graduate will be allowed to walk across the stage. This includes children, parents and pets. For accessibility requests, please fill out this form.

Special Regalia Information Collection

Does your organization offer graduation regalia for graduates? As Utah Tech continues to grow, all extracurricular stoles, cords etc. should be submitted using this from. By submitting regalia details in advance, we can ensure that all participants from different organizations or departments wear consistent regalia. Overall, having consistent regalia types helps us maintain tradition and distinction.
