What about people’s Dmail address and Google account?

Unrelated to the name change, Google changed their terms of service and no longer provides unlimited data to educational institutions. This is forcing us to make some changes in how we use Google services. We will no longer be using Google to provide any email services going forward. All current Dmail accounts will remain accessible until June 30, 2024 to give individuals time to migrate any emails they wish to keep. Starting in August, all students will be provisioned a utahtech.edu email address. The Dixie.edu Google Workspace will continue to be accessible until June 30, 2025.

I use Google services with my university account, how do I access Google services?

There will be two Google Workspaces going forward. To access the Dixie.edu Workspace, use your Digital-ID@utahtech.edu to log in. The Dixie.edu Workspace will be discontinued after June 30, 2025, so all content will need to be migrated prior to that time.

What about all my data in the old Dmail Google workspace?

We will be provisioning a new Google Workspace for the UtahTech.edu domain and we will be sunsetting the current Dixie.edu Workspace after June 30, 2025, which will result in the need to migrate content from the old workspace to the new. We recognize that this will be a significant pain point for a number of you and the decision wasn’t made lightly. Unfortunately, due to Google changing their Terms of Service, and because of some architectural decisions that were made a number of years ago that have made management of the platform problematic, the difficult decision was made to sunset the old and start with a new Workspace. You’ll want to migrate all of your content to the new UtahTech.edu Workspace. Instructions

Sign On Information

What is my new login?

Your Digital-ID or DNumber will not change. Where you previously used your Digital-ID@utahtech.edu username, you will use your Digital-ID@utahtech.edu username.

What if my Digital-ID@utahtech.edu didn’t work?

First try your Digital-ID@utahtech.edu and see if it works. Some systems will take some time to change to the Digital-ID@utahtech.edu account.

What is Single Sign ON?

Since the name change requires us to change our application authentications to the Digital-ID@utahtech.edu, we will change the applications to use a modern authentication provider. This new authentication provider will enable campus to utilize Single Sign On. Right now, you have one account to log into them all. This means most systems use your Digital ID and password and requires a new login prompt for each new application. With Single Sign On, you sign in once and then all the supported applications will automatically sign you in. This change will also allow you to log into these applications without a password. More to come on this functionality after the name change. This change will take place over the next year.

I signed into an application, but it still shows my Digital-ID@utahtech.edu, why is that?

It depends on the application. If it is an application installed on your computer, then you’ll want to configure the application for your new username. Instructions on how to do that for some common applications can be found at our How-To.
If it is an app hosted by a 3rd party vendor, this will take some time as we work with those vendors to move over to use the new usernames and the new authentication system. We will work on these integrations over the next several months.

DNumbers

What happens to my Dnumber?

DNumbers are not changing. All individuals will use the same DNumber they have always used. The “D” stands for Digital. So your DNumber is your Digital Number, or your Digital-ID.
